Three years ago, Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) Avesh Khan threw his helmet in celebration after a last-ball win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the latter’s homeground, M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. Avesh did not score the run himself but was overwhelmed by emotions in a tense finish. The pacer is often reminded on social media about the incident that went viral then and still resurfaces every now and then. Three years later, Avesh wonders why the people are still obsessed about it.
"I only did that once four [three] years ago, and I don't understand why people are still so obsessed with it. If I'm on the field and we win, we'll see how it goes, but it's all about the emotions at that moment," Avesh said with a smile during an interaction with ANI.
Previously, Avesh had expressed regret over the helmet incident. He felt that his celebration went a little over the top.
Currently, Avesh is playing for Chambal Ghariyals under the leadership of Shubham Sharma in the ongoing Madhya Pradesh Premier League (MPPL) 2026. He has played five games in the season and bagged nine wickets. He is looking forward to the semifinal clash against Jabalpur Royal Lions on June 25.
Avesh’s poor run in IPL and previous seasons
In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 wasn't a regular in the playing twelve. He played seven games and managed to claim six wickets, averaging 45.50. His economy rate of 11.06 runs per over was far from impressive. The last time he did well in an IPL season was for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2024 edition. His best came for Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2021 where he claimed 24 wickets from 16 games.
Has Avesh fallen out of selectors’ radar?
The 29-year-old hasn't played international cricket since 2024. From eight ODIs, he has nine wickets including a four-fer, averaging 36.55. From 25 T20Is, he has 27 wickets, averaging 27.04 and conceding runs at just over four runs per over. His only T20I four-fer came against South Africa in 2022.
Avesh had also been with Indian side as back-up bowlers in red-ball format as well. Over a period of time, his form dipped whereas other bowlers stepped up, leading to his ouster from the side.
