Bangladesh have named their squad for the upcoming three-match series against West Indies that is set to commence from October 18 and have decided to recall veteran batter Soumya Sarkar. The left-hand batter hasn't featured in an ODI for the team since their 2025 ICC Champions Trophy clash against India in February.
Bangladesh have also called up batter Mahidul Islam Ankon, who is yet to make his debut for the side in the format. He has only made one international appearance so far and that came in the Chattogram Test against South Africa last year. M ahidul has been called up after his impressive performance in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz will be the one leading the side while the likes of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain have been picked despite their recent poor form in one-day cricket. They have decided to go with three spin options in Mehidy, Tanvir Islam and Rishad Hossain and four pace options in Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan, Hasan Mahmud.
Bangladesh not in great form
Meanwhile, Bangladesh recently suffered an ODI series whitewash against Afghanistan. The Rashid Khan-led team went on to win all the three matches in the assignment and did so in convincing fashion. After winning the first match by five wickets, Afghanistan defeated the Tigers by 81 runs in the second encounter and by 200 runs in the third and final match.
Back-to-back series defeats
Previous to this series, they had lost the three-match ODI assignment against Sri Lanka in July by 1-2. The Lankan Lions had inflicted defeats by 77 and 99 runs in the first and third match respectively. It is safe to say that Bangladesh aren't in a great form when it comes to ODIs and will be hoping to improve when they come up against West Indies.
