Squad assembly will move to its next crucial phase on October 28, 2026, during the TATA WPL Player Auction. Staged at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi, the bidding event will see franchises finalize their lineups and fill remaining squad gaps ahead of the January tournament opening.
Coming on the heels of the 2026 mega auction, the upcoming bidding event allows teams to recalibrate under existing squad rules. Each franchise can build a squad of up to 18 players, including a maximum of six international stars—while operating under a Rs 15 crore purse limit. While the auction details are set, official host locations for the tournament remain under wraps. Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium and Vadodara’s Kotambi Stadium lead the shortlist to host fixtures. A newly constructed venue in Varanasi is also being evaluated, though it must first host domestic matches to demonstrate operational capability for a league of this scale. Royal Challengers Bengaluru will enter the competition as defending champions after defeating Delhi Capitals in the 2026 final at Vadodara.
