A controversy erupted during the 2nd ODI between Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka. Pakistan’s T20I captain, Salman Ali Agha, found himself at the center of a bizarre dismissal that left fans and players alike in disbelief. The incident occurred just as Pakistan appeared to be in a commanding position, threatening to take the game away from the hosts.
Tempers flare as Salman Agha furious after strange run-out in Dhaka
While batting first, Pakistan were cruising steadily thanks to a resilient 109-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha. The duo had stabilized the innings after early wickets, and the team was poised to accelerate in the final overs. However, the momentum shifted abruptly due to what many described as a school-boy error by Agha, resulting in a rare and highly unusual run-out.
The drama unfolded on the fourth delivery of the 39th over. Mohammad Rizwan struck a gentle shot down the ground off the bowling of Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The ball lacked pace and struck Agha on the pads at the non-striker’s end while he was standing outside his crease. In a momentary lapse of judgment, Agha reached down to pick up the ball to hand it back to the bowler, an act of sportsmanship that proved costly.
Capitalising on Agha being out of his ground, Miraz showed quick presence of mind by grabbing the ball and dislodging the bails. The umpire upheld the appeal, confirming the dismissal since the ball was still in play and the batter was out of his crease. Agha was left stunned by the decision, as his intention was simply to assist the fielding side, but the lapse in situational awareness ended his crucial stay at the crease.

In the aftermath of the decision, a visibly frustrated Salman Agha was unable to contain his emotions. The 32-year-old expressed his fury by throwing his helmet and bat to the ground while directing a barrage of heated remarks toward the Bangladesh players. He vehemently questioned the spirit of the game, arguing that he was merely being helpful, but his protest found no relief in the officiating booth; the third umpire reviewed the footage and ultimately upheld the on-field decision.
The tension escalated further as Agha engaged in a sharp altercation with Litton Das, who stood firm in defending his captain’s actions as being entirely within the laws of cricket. Even Pakistan's senior batter, Mohammad Rizwan, stepped in to confront the Bangladesh squad in hopes of a sportsmanship-led withdrawal of the appeal. However, the Bangladesh players refused to budge, maintaining that the dismissal was a legitimate tactical play within the rulebook.
