In a series of unfortunate events, it has been reported that Jasprit Bumrah is ruled out for the upcoming two-game Test series against Sri Lanka, which is set to take place from August 15 in Galle.
According to the latest report from The Times of India, the star Indian speedster continues to feel discomfort in his left knee following an initial test at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence facility in Bengaluru. With this, all the parties involved took a collective decision to not force him to take part in the red-ball cricket unless and until he reaches full recovery.
What actually happened with Bumrah?
Earlier reports claimed that the BCCI's medical team suggested an injection to cure Bumrah's knee issues that resurfaced during the closing stages of the 2026 T20 World Cup. Bumrah went through the entire process as planned last month, but his recovery has shown slow results.

While there were discussions about him being available for the second Test match in Colombo, the medical staff at the BCCI Centre of Excellence opted against Rushing his comeback, choosing to ensure complete recovery. The team management had planned a careful approach to Bumrah's recovery, with a proper plan in hand. As part of the plan, he was not expected to report to Mumbai on August 3 or travel with the team for the Sri Lanka series.
"There have been instances in the past where players have been rushed back to cricket, and have broken down. You can't take that risk again. Especially with Bumrah. So complete recovery is the only goal and there is a lot of cricket left in the year. There are Asian Games, the tour of New Zealand and even the Border-Gavaskar Trophy early next year," said a source to The Times of India.
Auqib Nabi to replace Bumrah?
However, Bumrah was picked up in the Shubman Gill-led side, his selection was dependent on getting the medical clearance. With the speedster now set to remain absent from the series, the Ajit Agarkar-led men's senior selection committee is expected to name a replacement soon. Auqib Nabi is leading the race to replace Bumrah in the squad.
