Further announcements on Pandya’s role are awaited in the coming weeks

It remains to be seen what the future holds as the selectors are expected to finalise the squad in the coming days

Hardik Pandya’s trade talks and his future with Mumbai Indians have taken a huge turn. The side’s fans might be seeing him once again in the jersey; however, it comes with conditions. The IPL franchise and Pandya are holding discussions over the all-rounder’s future with the franchise for IPL 2027.

According to a report by the Times of India, he could remain as a player but step down from the captaincy. The report further states that there has been no concrete movement on a potential trade for Pandya, despite earlier interest from other teams. The five-time champions are understood to be keen on retaining the India star in the squad while appointing a new captain.

Further announcements on Pandya’s role are awaited in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, earlier today, it was reported by TOI that Pandya’s comeback for India can be delayed. The 32-year-old suffered a late leg niggle which has disrupted his recovery plans. In addition to this, his availability to appear for the T20I series vs Afghanistan can also be halted.

It remains to be seen what the future holds as the selectors are expected to finalise the squad in the coming days. Pandya’s latest fitness concern adds uncertainty to the team’s plans. The series is scheduled to begin on 13 September 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
