Team India made a strong start to their World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-2025 campaign, securing a decisive 280-run victory over Bangladesh in Chennai on Sunday. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja played key roles in India's triumph, claiming six and three wickets respectively.
Following the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, India will host New Zealand for a three-match Test series. However, the most anticipated series will be the upcoming tour of Australia, where India will compete in a five-match Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025. This prestigious series, regarded as the pinnacle of Test cricket, will commence on November 22 in Perth.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should act as guiding lights for the younger batters: Ian Chappell
Rohit Sharma's brigade has already established its dominance in Test cricket, reaching the World Test Championship final in two consecutive editions. To secure a place in the final for the third time in a row, India will need to deliver exceptional performances on Australian soil in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025. India and Australia are slated to play a five-Test series starting from November 22.
Legendary Australian cricketer Ian Chappell has suggested that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should play a mentorship role for the younger Indian cricketers during the upcoming Australia tour. In his column for ESPN Cricinfo, Chappell emphasized the importance of these experienced players guiding the younger generation. He highlighted the need for the Indian batting unit to perform well in Australia, given their previous success in the series.
"Of the young batters Yashasvi Jaiswal looks very talented but he needs to show good form in Australia. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should act as guiding lights for the younger batters on tour. The batting needs to be good in Australia as India showed with their series wins on the last two visits. Batting aside, it will help India's chances enormously if both Pant and Bumrah are performing at their best in Australia," Chappel wrote in his column.
India currently hold the top position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-2025 standings following their stunning 280-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai on September 22. A clean sweep of Bangladesh (2-0) would significantly widen their lead over second-placed Australia.
