Cricket legend Brian Lara has tipped two rising Indian stars as potential contenders to break his World Record of highest individual score in Test cricket. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have caught Lara's eye, and he believes they possess the talent to break his long-standing mark unbeaten 400, set against England in 2004. Lara, who also holds the record for the highest score in First-Class cricket, a staggering 501 not out for Warwickshire in 1994, recognises a shift in Test cricket towards more aggressive batting. This, he suggests, makes it more likely that his records could eventually be eclipsed.
Can Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill break Brian Lara's 400-run record?
"There were players in my time who challenged, or at least went past the 300 mark - Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Sanath Jayasuriya. They were pretty much aggressive players," Lara told The Daily Mail.
"How many aggressive players do you have playing today? Especially in the England team. Zak Crawley and Harry Brook. Maybe in the Indian team? Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill. If they find the right situation, the records could be broken – both of them," Lara added.

Before this, Lara had earlier singled out Gill for his talent, saying:
"Gill is the most talented batter in this new generation. He will rule cricket in the coming years. I believe he will go on to break many big records."
At just 22 years old, Yashasvi Jaiswal has made a remarkable start to his Test career. He boasts an impressive average of over 68, with three centuries under his belt, including a stellar 171 on his debut against West Indies. Shubman Gill, also 22, brings a different kind of firepower to the table. Renowned for his elegant strokeplay, he's already a crucial member of India's limited-overs team. Gill holds the record for the fastest to 2,000 runs in ODI cricket and is the youngest to score a century in all three formats of the game.
With this new generation of batting talent exemplified by Jaiswal and Gill, Brian Lara's record-breaking knock might not hold the same aura of invincibility for much longer. The future of Test batting looks bright, and Lara's record could be within reach for these rising stars.
