In the recent development to the Team India's selectors post, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has finally shortlisted 13 candidates for the top post. Apparently seven of them are already interviewed and surprisingly the former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad wasn't picked for the coveted post and is out of the contention now. Chetan Sharma, Harvinder Singh, Amay Khurasia, Ajay Ratra, SS Das, S Sharath and Connor Williams were among those who appeared for the interviews by CAC.

The committee, led by Ashok Malhotra and comprised of Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Naik convened the brainstorm on January 2 (Monday).

Chetan Sharma (from North) is expected to retain his place as the chief selector, although former wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra has also applied from north zone. Harvinder Singh and Amay Khurasia have also been shortlisted from central zone. From South zone, S Sharath is amongst those shortlisted while from East, Shiv Sunder Das is there. From West Zone, Connor Williams appeared for the interview today, while Salil Ankola is scheduled for January 3.

Besides Venkatesh, top contenders for the chief selector were Nayan Mongia, Maninder Singh, Subroto Banerjee, Shiv Sundar Das. Former selectors Chetan Sharma and Harvinder Singh had also re-applied for the post. Sharma and team were sacked in November after India’s T20 World Cup debacle in Australia earlier last year.

Earlier, BCCI announced the appointment of a new CAC to appoint the new All-India Senior Selection Committee. The three-member committee comprises of Jatin Paranjape, Ashok Malhotra, and Sulakshana Naik.

Chetan Sharma and the current group of selectors were sacked recently after India’s semi-final exit in the T20 World Cup 2022. Since then, BCCI had invited applicants to become members of the next selection panel and a lot of former Indian cricketers have confirmed their applications already. The final five members of the All-India selection committee will be selected by the newly appointed CAC members.

Venkatesh Prasad, who was deemed to be amongst the front runners, was one of the mainstays in the pace bowling department for India during the 1990's. he donned the national team colours from 1996 to 2001, where in he played 33 Tests and 161 ODIs, having picked up a total of 292 wickets across both formats.
