Australian cricketer Cameron Green, known for his all-round capabilities, has recently opened up about his lifelong battle with a chronic kidney disease. Despite this health challenge, which he has kept private until now, Green has continued to make his mark in the cricketing world.
Green's revelation came in an interview with 7Cricket, where he disclosed that his kidney disease has been a part of his life since childhood. This condition, which he described as having no symptoms and being irreversible, has not deterred him from pursuing his cricketing career. In a surprising revelation, Green's father, Gary, shared that doctors had once predicted Cameron might not live beyond the age of 12 due to this condition.
“My parents got told when I was born that I had chronic kidney disease, basically, there are no symptoms. It just got picked up from the ultrasound. Kidneys can’t get better. It’s irreversible. So any way you can find to slow the progression, you basically try and do,” said Green.
Despite these health concerns, Green has achieved notable success in cricket. He made headlines in the Indian Premier League (IPL) world when he was traded from Mumbai Indians to Royal Challengers Bangalore for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. The transfer came after a heated bidding war between the two franchises during the IPL 2023 mini-auction, where Mumbai Indians secured his services for a substantial INR 17.50 crore.
In his debut IPL season in 2023, Green showcased his talents by scoring 452 runs across 16 matches at an impressive average of 50.22 and a striking rate of 160.28. His season was highlighted by a century and two half-centuries. Green also contributed with the ball, taking six wickets for the five-time IPL champions.
Green's journey in cricket, marked by determination and resilience, is all the more inspiring given his health challenges. His story serves as a testament to the spirit of overcoming obstacles and achieving excellence in the face of adversity. As Green transitions to the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the next IPL season, fans and followers of the sport will undoubtedly be cheering him on, inspired by his courage and dedication to the game.
