Cricket South Africa (CSA) has penalized the South African domestic team Warriors for not adhering to the board's selection criteria during their game against the Dolphins in the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge Division One on February 16 at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban. The Warriors broke CSA's quota policy by fielding fewer black African players in their starting lineup than necessary.

According to the Wisden report, the violation of selection procedures has cost them a spot in the One-Day Cup knockout stage. The squad was demoted to fourth place after the penalty, even though they had a great league-stage campaign and finished third last week.

What is the quote rule?

Cricket South Africa (CSA) maintains strict player selection rules to encourage diversity in both domestic and international cricket. Teams must include a minimum of three Black African players and at least six players of color in their starting lineup for domestic events. The national team's quota system follows somewhat distinct guidelines.

Two black African players are now required, although the aim of six players of color is still in place. However, this goal is calculated as an average for the entire season rather than being required for every game.

CSA punishes Warriors

The Warriors were deducted five points by CSA, which was the same amount of points they had received for winning that match, plus a bonus point. Their hopes of making it to the playoffs are almost eliminated by this deduction. The Dolphins received four points for the game and moved up to second place in the standings as a result. In the upcoming play-off matchup, the Dolphins will now host the Titans.

The Warriors, who had maintained their form throughout the tournament, are severely hurt by the penalty. The board's strong commitment to guaranteeing equality and diversity in South African cricket is demonstrated by the implementation of CSA's selection policy.
