'Her demand will definitely be high in the mega auction': Former India batter predicts bidding war for Deepti Sharma
Deepti Sharma of UP Warriorz looks on during the WPL 2023 match against Gujarat Giants at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy on March 5, 2023 in Mumbai, India.

Story Highlights:

UP Warriorz released Deepti Sharma before the mega auction.

Anjum Chopra expects three-way bidding war for Deepti.

Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 mega auction is set to take place on November 27. Several high profile players are available as franchises look to revamp ahead of the fourth season. One of the greatest Indian all-rounders, Deepti Sharma will be on the wishlist of a few franchises, predicted former India cricketers Veda Krishnamurthy and Anjum Chopra.

“Deepti Sharma is a proven match-winner from earlier WPL seasons, performing brilliantly with both bat and ball. She also won the Player of the Tournament award in the recently concluded Women’s ODI World Cup. Her demand will definitely be high in the mega-auction, and every franchise will be watching her closely,” Krishnamurthy said on JioStar.

Chopra feels that Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants and her former franchise UP Warriorz will look to acquire the all-rounder's services.

“Gujarat Giants should definitely consider Deepti Sharma in the mega-auction. Delhi Capitals might also target her as an Indian player who strengthens both batting and bowling. UP Warriorz could be the third team interested after Gujarat and Delhi in acquiring her services,” Chopra said.

Along with Deepti, Chopra feels that Harleen Deol’s name will start a bidding war as well. She was left baffled why Gujarat Giants let go of Deol before the mega auction.

"I am surprised Gujarat Giants released Harleen Deol. She's a multi-talented Indian player who can also bowl a bit, and I hope she develops her bowling skills further. She'll command good interest in the auction. Along with Deepti Sharma, she'll be one Indian player every franchise will target because teams want strong Indian batters and potential leadership options," the 48-year-old said.

Deepti in sublime form in World Cup 2025

Deepti was in terrific form in India's ODI World Cup 2025-winning campaign. In the final, she scored 58 runs and claimed a five-wicket haul. She was named 'Player of the series'.

Deepti’s WPL record

Deepti was roped in for Rs 2.60 crore by UP Warriorz in the inaugural mega auction. From 25 games, she has scored 507 runs at an average of 28.16, including three fifties. With the ball, she has 27 wickets at an average of 29.29, including a four-wicket haul.

In the absence of Alyssa Healy, Deepti captained UP Warriorz as well. Under her captaincy, UP Warriorz lost five out of five games. One of them was a super over win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
