Delhi Capitals to choose Rishabh Pant over Shreyas Iyer as captain for next season

Delhi Capitals (DC) have decided to retain Rishabh Pant as their captain for the next season ahead of Shreyas Iyer. As per Sports Tak source, the table-toppers of last season have retained wicketkeeper-batter Pant, opener Prithvi Shaw and bowling all-rounder Axar Patel.

As expected, Mumbai Indians (MI) have retained skipper Rohit Sharma and their frontline bowler Jasprit Bumrah. There are still question marks over whether they will retain Suryakumar Yadav or Ishan Kishan before the mega auction.

It is still not decided whether Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will retain Eoin Morgan who took the side to the final of IPL 2021 but had a lacklustre season with the bat. Mystery spinner and all-rounder Sunil Narine is their first pick of the retention list.

As per rules set by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), an existing franchise can retain upto four players before the auction. It can be a combination of two overseas and two Indian players or just one overseas player and three Indian players. The list is to be submitted to BCCI before November 30.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings (PBKS), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are yet to announce any of their retentions. It is also possible that franchises might try their luck at the mega auction for the 10-team tournament next year.

On the other hand, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have decided to retain MS Dhoni as their captain for next season alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja.

The surprise exclusions from the lot include Shikhar Dhawan from DC and Suresh Raina from CSK. Dhawan had a good IPL 2021 season with the bat and is a potential leader for any of the existing or new franchise. As far as Raina is concerned, he was not at his best in the second phase of the tournament.
