Batters are expected to dominate the fast-paced formats. The smaller boundaries, batting-friendly pitches make for mouth-watering encounters where fours and sixes rain. But every one in a while, a team collapses. In the Sixty Strikes 2024 which is a T10 tournament, Dinesh Karthik-led Dallas Lonestars was bundled out in just 38 balls for a score of 65. Telangana-born USA left-arm spinner Karthik Gattepalli stood out with a four-wicket haul causing a middle-order collapse.

Louis’ blazing fifty sets up the game for Chicago

Earlier, Robin Uthappa-led Chicago posted 124/5. They did not get off to a good start as Chris Lynn was bowled for a two-ball duck by left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha. Uthappa and Leonardo Julien got off to good starts but could not convert. Samit Patel dismissed Uthappa who scored 22 runs from 13 balls including three fours and a six. Julien hit two fours and a six in his 10-ball 18 before falling to Chris Green. England's Ravi Bopara couldn't make an impact either as he lost his wicket to Hayden Walsh.

From 51/5 in the sixth over, the partnership between young Mikyle Louis and Sohail Tanvir helped them post a challenging total of 124/5. Louis smashed six sixes and three fours in his unbeaten 19-ball 57. On the other end, Tanvir contributed with a 14-ball 24 laced with three fours and a six. He got out stumped off the final ball of the innings.

Karthik’s men fail spin trial

In the run chase, Simon Harmer dismissed Sohaib Maqsood for a single-digit score in his first over. Patel hit a four and a six but became Gattepalli's first victim of the day. Skipper Karthik hit a six before losing his wicket off the final ball of Gattepalli’s over. In Harmer's next over, opener Colin Munro went back to the pavillion after hitting two sixes.

On a pitch that favoured the spinners, Scotland's Michael Leask capitalised as well and got the wickets of Matt Critchley and Walsh. Gattepalli got two more wickets while tailender Sri Pannala was run out as Dallas Lonestars lay down their arms. They were bowled out for 65 with 22 balls left in the innings and lost the match by a huge margin of 59 runs.
