England could play a one-off Test against Bangladesh before the 2027 home Ashes series.

Lord’s may host the Bangladesh Test if The Oval gets the 2027 World Test Championship Final.

In a series of interesting events, England are reportedly gearing up to host Bangladesh for a one-off Test game in late May 2027, with the game expected to serve as part of their preparation for the highly anticipated Ashes against Australia later that year.

England to host Bangladesh in one-off Test match

The venue for the proposed Test has not been finalized, with the decision likely to depend on the host location of the 2027 ICC World Test Championship final. Prior to that, England are set to travel to Bangladesh for a two-game Test series in February 2027, followed by the historic one-off 150th Anniversary Test against Australia in Melbourne the following month. As an outcome, the Three Lions could find themselves trapped in as many as nine Test matches against Bangladesh and Australia.

Confusion about the venues

According to a latest report by The Guardian, the ECB has a deal in place with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to host the final of the World Test Championship in London through 2031. Lord's is currently the hot favorite to host the 2027 final, having already staged the title clashes in 2023 and 2025.

However, concerns over the behaviour of the pitch at the legendary venue have prompted discussions within the ECB, with The Oval  emerging as a possible alternative for the marquee game.

As per the ECB's agreement with the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), Lord's is guaranteed two Test matches every English summer. As an outcome, if the iconic venue is not picked to host the 2027 World Test Championship Final, it is set to stage the recently proposed one-off Test against Bangladesh instead.
