Essex's 24-year-old Bangladesh-origin batter Robin Das has been charged of two counts of rape and is set to appear at Inner Crown Court on October 9. Das was charged on July 23, a couple of days after his previous professional cricket (List A match) appearance on July 21.
"Robin Das of Queens Road, Waltham Forest, was charged on 23 July 2026 with two counts of rape,” Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

"The charges follow his arrest on 27 August 2025 following reports of a woman being raped in Brixton on 30 March 2024. The woman continues to be supported by specialist officers."

On July 23, Essex County Cricket Club released a statement. They did not name Robin Das in the statement and referred to him as a 'male member of the playing staff' who is currently a contracted player. The club revealed that Das continues to be suspended and they are contract with England Cricket Board (ECB), PCA and The Cricket Regulator. They refused to comment to the ongoing legal proceedings.
Das’ English domestic cricket career and short BPL stint
Leytonstone-born Das had made his T20 debut as a teenager in 2020. He made his List A debut in 2022 and first-class debut in 2023. His most recent appearance was in a One-Day match against Middlesex where he scored 29 runs.
So far, he has played nine first-class, 29 List A and 24 T20 games. He has scored 327 runs from 13 red-ball innings at an average of 25.15 featuring a solitary century. In 29 List A games, he has 805 runs at an average of 28.75 including a ton and five fifties. In T20s, he has 341 runs from 22 innings averaging nearly 18 with a strike rate of 150.88. In Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2023, he had represented Dhaka Dominators in two games where he failed to score a single run.
