Indian speedster Mohammed Shami said that Virat Kohli is the fittest cricketer in the current team and the pacers are always strong. The veteran pacer last featured for India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He ended the tournament as the highest wicket-taker with 24 scalps in seven outings.
Shami who is currently on the road to recovery from an ankle injury exclusively told Sports Tak that the Indian Cricket team is considered to be the fittest in the world.
"Virat Kohli has always been kept at the top. But there are a lot of players in our Indian team who are considered to be the fittest. They have shown their skills and fitness. Shubhman Gill, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja. Fast bowlers are always strong. Bowlers have always been strong. But if you look at batting, there are a lot of strong features" Shami told Sports Tak.
Team India is currently involved in three Test match series against New Zealand where they have lost the first Test match by eight wickets. The second Test match will take place at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune from October 24-28.
After the conclusion of the red-ball series against New Zealand, the Men in Blue will travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 scheduled to start from November 22.
Shami is expected to make his cricketing comeback for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy. With India scheduled to leave for Australia two weeks before the series opener in Perth on November 22, he will have the opportunity to play in two Ranji matches for Bengal.
His experience and track record will be crucial for India during the tour. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins on November 22, followed by the second Test in Adelaide starting December 6. The third Test will take place at the Gabba on December 14, with the fourth Test at the MCG on December 26, and the series concluding with the final Test at the SCG on January 3.
