FIR filed against Punjab Kings' Shashank Singh & retired IPS officer father for alleged assault on cook

An FIR has been registered against Punjab Kings' vice-captain Shashank Singh at Ratibad Police Station, Bhopal, for alleged assault on their cook Vipendra Singh Tomar. Shashank's father, retired IPS officer Shailesh Singh has been booked by the Bhopal police as well.

Vipendra had started working at Shashank's family residence recently in Mendori village, Bhopal. The cook has alleged that in addition to assault, he was subjected to verbal refuse and wrongful confinement as well.

Vipendra was hired for a monthly salary for Rs 15,000 in addition to free accommodation and meals. He went on to claim that the former police officer was promised of getting a government job in future as well. He alleges that complaints about the food he cooked led to mental harassment, verbal abuse and assault.

“When I observed the abusive environment and expressed my desire to quit the job and return home, they became infuriated," the complainant said in the report.

Shashank’s driver named in FIR too, police confirms assault 

In addition to Shashank and his father, the driver has been booked as well. He alleged that his mobile phone was taken away to ensure that he doesn't contact anyone and continues to work there. The 31-year-old further alleged that in order to protect himself, he locked himself inside a room. However, Shashank, his father and the driver managed to break through and assaulted him. A medical examination was conducted by the police on June 29 which showed injury marks on the complainant's face and body.

The three accused have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita’s (BNS) Section 296(B) Obscene acts and public verbal abuse; Section 115(2) Voluntarily causing hurt/assault and Section 3(5) Joint criminal liability (acts done by multiple people with common intention).

Shashank is yet to make an official statement on the matter. He was last seen in action on the field in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 last month.
