A legal case has been filed against 90 individuals, including former Bangladesh national cricket team captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, accusing them of assaulting students and members of the public during the recent anti-discrimination student protests. The case alleges that Mortaza and the others were involved in violent confrontations with demonstrators advocating for educational reforms and equal treatment. This incident has sparked widespread controversy and heightened tensions around the student movement's demands for systemic change.

The case, which also names Mashrafe's father, Golam Mortaza Swapan, was filed by Sheikh Mostafa AL-Muzahidur Rahman Palash at Narail Sadar Police Station.

"According to Saiful Islam, the officer-in-charge of the station, the incident occurred on August 4 during the quota reform movement. The case statement claims that Mashrafe, his father, and others, armed with weapons, held a rally at Narail intersection. When students, who were demanding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, reached the Russel bridge area, they were allegedly attacked by the group, leading to a clash" quoted CricketPakistan.

Earlier, former Bangladesh skipper Shakib-Al Hasan was allegedly named in the murder case of Rubel Islam. Rubel was murdered on August 5. His father field a complaint and Shakib alongside former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

As per a report by Bangladesh News 24, Rubel's father lodged the complaint in the Abador Police station. However, Shakib and Hasina are on the long list of suspects including former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan.
