Former Indian cricketer Dilip Doshi passed away at the age of 77 due to cardiac arrest in London on Monday. Dilip is a left-arm spinner who represented India in 33 Tests and 15 ODIs from 1979 to 1983. He picked 114 wickets in Tests and 22 scalps in white ball cricket. Doshi made a silent exit from international cricket 1980s as he did not agree with the way Indian cricket was being run at the time.

Dilip made his international debut against Australia during the first Test of Australia’s tour of India, which was played in Chennai. He picked up six wickets, conceding 103 in the first innings and overall, eight for 167 in the fixture. Doshi is one of the nine Indian men who have a five-for on their debut Test.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also took their 'X', formerly known as Twitter, to pay condolences to the former India cricketer.

"The BCCI mourns the sad demise of former India spinner, Dilip Doshi, who has unfortunately passed away in London. May his soul rest in peace" posted BCCI.

Former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah also expressed his "profound grief" at Doshi's death.

“It is an extremely painful and personal loss for me. Dilip was not only one of the legendary cricketers, but also one of the finest human beings I have ever known. His noble heart, integrity, and priceless dedication to the game made him truly special. He was family—someone I shared not just cricketing conversations with, but also a deep bond built on mutual respect and affection. His presence always brought warmth, humility, and positive energy. The void he leaves behind is beyond words. It is not just the world of cricket, but my own heart that feels his absence deeply. I shall always cherish the beautiful memories and moments we spent together. His legacy will live on through the many lives he inspired" said Niranjan Shah as quoted by TOI.

Doshi recently attended the BCCI Awards function and the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord's earlier this month.

He represented Saurashtra and Bengal in first-class cricket in India. He also played for Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire in county cricket in England. Overall, he took 898 wickets in first-class cricket.
