In a series of interesting updates, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has decided to open the gates free of charge for spectators during the upcoming two-match Test series against India. Fans will be able to watch the game at both the Galle International Stadium and Colombo's Sinhalese Sports Club without buying the tickets, with the series opener set to begin in Galle on Saturday, August 15.
Good news for Sri Lankan cricket fans
Sri Lankan fans have been known for their love towards the game, as they always create an electric atmosphere at home games. By letting spectators enter the stadium for free of cost, the board will hope to draw bigger crowds and bring greater excitement to Test cricket, which has witnessed declining attendance in recent years.

India's last visit to Sri Lanka produced a marvelous result for the home side, who claimed the ODI series 2-0. The triumph finished a long wait for Sri Lanka, as it was their maiden ODI series win against India since 1997.
According to the latest report by Newswire, spectators attending the Galle Test can access the stadium without charge through Gate No.4. For the second Test at the SSC in Colombo, free entry will be available through Gates 3,4, 5 and 7.
This is not the first time Sri Lanka Cricket has allowed fans to attend international games without any tickets. During the 2026 T20 World Cup, which was jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, the board provided free entry for some of the games.
