Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20 cricket after Team India won the T20 World Cup 2024 under his leadership defeating South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval. Rohit was appointed as India's white-ball skipper in 2021 after Virat Kohli left the captaincy in 2021. Rohit leaves T20Is with 4231 runs from 159 matches, having made five hundreds and 32 fifties. Now there are questions that who will lead India. Even BCCI President Roger Binny said that it will take another two-three years for the Indian T20 team to "come into its own" again given the void that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's international retirement from the format will create.

Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya will be a hot contender to lead India in T20Is because he was his deputy in the World Cup and his experience will surely help India to reach new heights in T20I. He already led India in 16 T20I matches. He last captained India against West Indies in 2023 at Central Broward Regional Park.
Rishabh Pant
India's wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant will also be the ideal candidate for the captaincy he can replicate MS Dhoni in terms of captaincy the young batter is currently in the form of his life. Pant scored 171 runs in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024.
Jasprit Bumrah
Considering Bumrah's experience, he will be the ideal candidate to be Rohit Sharma's successor for T20I captaincy as we witnessed how he can dominate the side and his experience will surely help the youngsters to groom.
Suryakumar Yadav
India's star batter can also lead team India in T20Is because he already captained India in the past. He served as the Indian captain for seven T20Is in 2023 after India's loss in the ODI World Cup 2023.
Shubman Gill
Indian young opener Shubman Gill will lead the team in the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe and if the team perform well under his captaincy then will be ideal to lead India considering his age.
