Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has earned widespread recognition for his outstanding leadership for both the national side and Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI). He led MI from 2013 to 2023 as one of the most successful captains in IPL history. MI lifted joint most titles (5) under his captaincy. Rohit-led India won the T20 World Cup 2024 later this year after defeating South Africa in the final on June 29 at Kennington Oval in Barbados.
Recently, many cricketers lavished praise on Rohit's leadership, often noting the deep camaraderie they shared with the 37-year-old Indian captain. Indian veteran spinner Piyush Chawla who was part of Rohit Sharma's MI during IPL 2023 season also lavished praise on his captaincy in the cash-rich league.
Chawla was the standout performer in IPL 2023 where he picked 22 wickets in 16 outings and finished the tournament as fourth highest wicket-taker. He revealed his old conversation with Rohit Sharma when he called him at 2.30 AM IST to plan the strategy for removing Delhi Capitals (DC) opener David Warner.
"I've played so much cricket with him that we've reached a comfort level. We sit off-the-field as well. Once, at 2:30 in the night, he texted me and asked, "you up?" He drew a field on paper and discussed with me about potentially dismissing Warner. Even at that time, he was thinking about how he could get the best out of me. Rohit is One of the Greatest leaders ever, very Smart on the field. When he defended low totals, Captain's role was very important & Rohit defended many low totals like in 2017 IPL Final. He is true Leader of the Game” Chawla told Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube.“
Rohit Sharma is currently preparing for the upcoming two Test match series which is scheduled to start from September 19. First Test match will be played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Chennai and second match will take place at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
