In a series of interesting events, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly received praise from Pretoria Capitals captain Keshav Maharaj for creating a positive team environment since taking over the coaching duties of the side.
Notably, under Ganguly's coaching the Pretoria-based franchise made their maiden appearance at the final, where they lost against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape by six wickets.
In a release, Pretoria Capitals skipper Maharaj praised Ganguly for having a positive influence on the players, as it becomes very essential to have every individual on the same page in a big tournament like SA20.
“I think in tournaments like this, you’ve got to build a nice team culture around everything, and Sourav was amazing at that,” Maharaj said in a release.
“We had a lot of guys that bought into what we tried to achieve. Often during the competition, when we weren’t playing, we’d get in the team room, have dinner together, watch other games and chat cricket. There was a real buzz and energy within the camp, which was a privilege to be a part of, added Maharaj.

Ganguly's previous stints in franchise cricket
Having previously served as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Ganguly kicked off his coaching career with South Africa's T20 side last year. The former India captain also had two different roles with Delhi Capitals in the IPL, serving as both team directors and advisor across two different stints.

The Pretoria Capitals staged an amazing turnaround in the 2026 edition, making a tremendous comeback from two successive campaigns to finish as runners-up. With Sourav Ganguly coming in as coach, the side recorded an impressive performance, securing second place on the table and a direct path to Qualifier 1. However, they faced a defeat in the finals against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, as they failed to defend 159 runs.
