Adam Gilchrist feels Rohit Sharma won't go to England
However, during the Sydney Test Rohit later revealed that he isn't going anywhere anytime soon putting a halt to all the rumours floating around his retirement from the longest format of the game. Meanwhile, Gilchrist has said that Rohit will likely reassess his situation upon returning home from Australia. He thinks The recent birth of his second child may also influence his decision regarding the England tour. Notably, India will tour to England for the five-match Test series which is scheduled to be played from June 20 to August 4.
"I don't see Rohit going to England. I just felt that he says he will assess it when he gets home. I mean, the first thing he will be met with when he gets home is a two-month-old baby that he has to change the nappies on. Now that might incentivise him to go to England. But I don't see him pressing on," Gilchrist said on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.
Extending his analysis, Gilchrist also shared his perspective on Rohit Sharma's future in ODIs. He said that the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 could potentially mark the end of Rohit's journey in the 50-over format.
"I think he'll probably have a crack at the Champions Trophy and that might be...that might see him out," Gilchrist added.
Rohit Sharma's Test form in 2023 has been a cause for concern. He has struggled to find consistency, scoring only 619 runs from 26 innings at an average of 24.76.
In stark contrast, his ODI form has been exceptional. Since 2023, he has amassed 1412 runs from 29 innings at an impressive average of 52.29 and a strike rate of 119.35. His explosive starts have provided crucial momentum for the Indian team in recent matches. Given his outstanding ODI record and his retirement from T20Is, it is likely that Rohit Sharma will continue to play in the 50-over format for some time. It will be interesting to see how will Rohit fare in the Champions Trophy 2025 which is set to start from February 19
