India star batter Virat Kohli who is currently spending time with his family after featuring in ODI series against Sri Lanka said that he would suggest his younger self to be more patient and try to stay true who you are. Kohli will now feature in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh made his international debut on August 18, 2008.

On his international debut's 16th anniversary, Kohli said that after getting tattooed he felt like his Test career is over after getting inked for the first time.

“The only message I would give to my younger self would be to have more patience, and be more sure of who you are. So I would tell my younger self to try to stay true to who you are. Most of the time it's tough. It's not easy when you know mostly everyone around you is telling you things that you're doing wrong. When I got tattooed I honestly felt like my test career is over. I kid you not. When I got my first big tattoo I was like this is this is the end. No test cricketer has tattoos on their body so I can never be a test player” said Kohli in a video shared by Starsports.

“So that's the environment I was a part of. But I wanted to do it. So that really tore me apart. A lot of the times I was like, but this is what I wanna do, how does it have any connection to the game? This is all my conditioning, all part of the environment I've been part of that's making me feel like this. So that's the only thing I would tell myself, believe in what you wanna do, but also be very honest with yourself, and be humble about it. You also have to be able to do the hard work you can't be like how many of the party that would have pretty clear may if you're giving everything that meant anything else on the side of the acceptable as long as you're being true to yourself” added Kohli.

Kohli has announced his retirement from T20Is after India won the title defeating South Africa in the final of a marquee event played at Kensington Oval Barbados on June 29, 2024.
