The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a record prize money pool of the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-2025 final. The ICC disclosed that the total prize money allocated for the WTC 2023-25 Final amounts to a staggering USD 5.76 million, which is equivalent to approximately Rs 49.27 crore, which is more than double the prize money awarded in the previous two editions of the prestigious Test championship.

The highly anticipated summit clash of the third WTC cycle is set to take place at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, with the match dates spanning from June 11to June 15. Cricket enthusiasts worldwide eagerly await this momentous encounter to witness which of the two formidable teams will lift the coveted trophy and claim the whopping prize.

“The champions will walk away with USD 3.6 million, a significant jump from the USD 1.6 million awarded in both 2021 and 2023 while the runners-up will earn USD 2.16 million, up from USD 800,000,” ICC's statement stated.

South Africa's consistent performance throughout the WTC25 cycle propelled them to the top of the standings, making them the first team to secure their place in the final. Their journey to the summit clash was marked by series victories against Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, complemented by a drawn home series against a formidable Indian side.

Australia also demonstrated their Test prowess, securing their qualification for the final after a significant 3-1 series victory over India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier in the year. This hard-fought series win solidified their position as one of the top two Test-playing nations in this cycle.

India, despite finishing third in the WTC25 standings, will still receive a substantial reward for their efforts. As the team that finished third, the two-time runners-up are set to pocket the third-largest share of the prize money among the finalists, amounting to USD 1.44 million, which is approximately Rs 12.31 crore.

Meanwhile, ICC chairman Jay Shah also spoke on the WTC final prize announcement and said:

“We have witnessed a very interesting third cycle of the ICC World Test Championship, where the finalists were decided only towards the end of the competition. The championship has showcased remarkable performances from players of different teams, culminating in a final between these two exceptional squads – a true celebration of cricket. I am sure spectators at Lord’s, along with fans tuning in from all over the world, will be treated to some top-class cricket in this revered format when Australia and South Africa take the field less than a month from now."
