Meanwhile, pace icon Jasprit Bumrah also ceded ground, slipping one spot in the bowling charts.
Despite Gill's minor slide, Rishabh Pant retained his position as India’s premier red-ball batter, holding firm at seventh place globally. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also maintained his ground, sitting just on the periphery of the elite group in 11th spot.

Padikkal climbs Test Rankings, slump for Gill and Bumrah
The standout story from the update belongs to Devdutt Padikkal. On the heels of a prolific series in Sri Lanka—where he topped India’s scoring charts with 328 runs across two Tests, including a pair of centuries—the stylish batter vaulted five spots up the standings to claim 54th position.
Bumrah’s enforced spell on the sidelines has cost him his long-held position near the summit of the ICC Test bowling rankings. Having been out of action since mid-July due to a knee impact injury that ruled him out of the Sri Lanka series, the Indian pace spearhead surrendered his second-place spot, slipping to third behind Australia’s Mitchell Starc and New Zealand’s Matt Henry.
While Bumrah has been named in India’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in mid-September, his return to the field remains uncertain pending a critical medical green light.
On the opposing side of India's recent Test assignment, Sri Lanka’s Sonal Dinusha enjoyed a meteoric rise in the batting charts. Rewarded for a series of gritty, resilient centuries during the second Test in Colombo, Dinusha rocketed up 29 places to claim 25th spot in the world rankings.

Tongue-Robinson make merry in standings
Meanwhile, Ollie Robinson, who claimed 8 for 35 across both innings in the second Test against Pakistan, jumped six spots to fifth in current standings, just one slot below his career-best mark from February 2023. It caps an impressive 22-place climb for Robinson since the series started. On the other hand, his fellow quick Josh Tongue also hit a new milestone, moving up four spots to a career-high 13th thanks to a five-wicket match display.
