Sanju Samson dropped the ODI side.

This will be Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as head coach.

BCCI announced the official Indian squad for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka. Both series will consist of three matches and will be played across two venues. A couple of stars also received their maiden call-up to the 50-over side. However, surprisingly Sanju Samson was dropped from the ODI squad after being part of India's previous ODI series against South Africa where he scored a match-winning century in his last ODI innings. After which an old video of Gautam Gambhir praising the Rajasthan Royals captain is going viral across social media.

Gautam Gambhir's remark on Sanju Samson

In an old video which is now being circulated all over the internet, Gautam Gambhir can be seen talking highly of Sanju Samson and saying that him not being part of the ODI setup is a loss for the Indian team. He also said that Samson should be backed like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and hailed him as the no.1 batter in the world. However, Samson was now snubbed from Gambhir's first assignment as India coach. Samson, however, managed to keep his spot in India's T20I squad.
