In a series of historic events, Lakshya and Sagar showed remarkable performance and concentration with the bat. The opening duo battled tough conditions with cool and calm mindset and frustrated Sri Lanka U19 for 91.5 overs, putting together the second-biggest first-wicket partnership in youth Test history. Their mammoth stand came to an end at 295 when Lathendra Akash removed Sagar for 134 off 312 deliveries, an innings featuring 15 fours and one six.

The highest opening partnership in Youth Tests belongs to Gautam Gambhir and Vinayak Mane, who built a humongous stand of 391 runs for India against England in January 2001. With their 295-run partnership, Lakshya and Sagar climbed to second on the all-time chart, surpassing Zimbabwe's Douglas Marillier and Mark Vermeulen, whose 268-run opening partnership against England had stood since 1997.
Michael Slater and Rob Kelly grabbed the fourth spot on the all-time list after putting together 256 run for the first wicket against New Zealand in 1989. Completing the top five are Marcus Trescothik and Anthony McGrath, whose 247-run partnership against South Africa in 1995 remains one of the biggest opening wicket stand in Youth Test history.

India replied with strong show and reached 378/3 by stumps on Day 3, powered by a mammoth 295-run opening stand between unbeaten centurion Laksya, who was batting at 198 and Sagar, who scored beautiful 134.
