India are slated to tour Bangladesh for a white-ball series. However, BCCI is yet to greenlight the series

If the tour happens, it will have its effect on India's T20I series against Afghanistan

Following a series of discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Team India is reportedly on the verge of traveling to Bangladesh later this year. The Bangladesh Cricket Board is expected to secure official approval to host the Men in Blue for a white-ball series.

However, integrating this tour into the international calendar will require some scheduling adjustments. To accommodate the newly planned matches against Bangladesh, the BCCI is considering pushing back the upcoming home T20I series against Afghanistan by a few days from its original slot.

India's Bangladesh tour means rescheduling of Afghanistan T20Is

According to a report by the Times of India, the limited-overs series against Afghanistan was initially slated to begin on September 14. If the Indian board finalizes the Bangladesh tour, the Afghanistan fixtures are expected to shift back slightly, with a new proposed start date of September 17. The report noted that the white-ball tour of Bangladesh is nearing final approval, prompting the rescheduling of the three T20Is against Afghanistan to balance the workload.

"We are hopeful about the tour. We haven't got the green signal as yet from the BCCI, but they also have not said they are not coming. So we are hoping to get a positive response from the BCCI soon," TOI report read.

To accommodate a potential tour of Bangladesh, the BCCI is considering a strategic adjustment to India's upcoming home schedule. While India is scheduled to host a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka from August 15 to 27, pushing back the subsequent short series to September 17 would open up a viable window. This scheduling gap would allow the Men in Blue to fit in a brief white-ball tour of Bangladesh, satisfying BCB keen interest in hosting a six-match limited-overs series.

The BCB is highly motivated to make this home series a reality as they look to mend diplomatic ties with their influential neighbors. Relations between the two boards became strained prior to the 2026 T20 World Cup, following the previous Bangladesh administration's controversial refusal to send their national team to India for the tournament. With a newly elected leadership now running the BCB and eager to move past the political turmoil that canceled last year's planned bilateral fixtures, reviving this tour has become a top priority.
