Ireland’s 23-year-old in-form batter Harry Tector jumped nine places to enter top 10 International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI batter rankings on May 17. On the back of his career-best 140 in the second ODI against Bangladesh in England, Tector left former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock and Indian captain Rohit Sharma behind.

From three games, Tector scored 206 runs and ended the three-ODI series as the highest run-getter. He gained 72 rating points. He has three-point lead over Kohli who has 719 rating points followed by De Kock (718 rating points) and Sharma (707 rating points). Tector entering top 10 also pushed former Australia skipper Steve Smith (702 rating points) out of top 10.

The 722 rating points Tector achieved is the highest for an Ireland batter. The previous-best belonged to Paul Stirling who achieved 697 rating points in June 2021.

The highest-ranked Indian batter in ODI rankings is Shubman Gill who is placed fifth with 738 rating points. The list is led by Pakistan skipper Babar Azam who is way ahead of others with 886 rating points. Recently, he also became the fastest to 5,000 ODI runs.

Another Ireland batter who made a big leap is Stirling. The veteran opener jumped four places to reach 19th place, pushing down Australia wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey, New Zealand stand-in skipper Tom Latham, former England skipper Joe Root and Afghan batter Rahmat Shah.

Tector will have a chance to move up and displace Australian opener David Warner who has 726 rating points as Ireland take on Zimbabwe in June-July in World Cup 2023 qualifier.

"He's (Tector) just got all the attributes to go on and be one of the greats of Irish cricket and I hope that we can help him on his way, and he continues to put in scores for us," Ireland skipper Andy Balbirnie was quoted as saying by ICC.

"The more runs he gets for us, the better place we're going to be."
