Justin Greaves has marked an important career milestone on Sunday by scoring his first One-Day International century during the opening match of the three-game series against India. Following this, the West Indies opener has created history at his age.
The 32-year-old Barbadian all-rounder reached three figures off 104 balls at the Greenfield International Stadium. He finished with 101 from 108 deliveries, including 12 boundaries, before being dismissed lbw by Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav shortly after the landmark.
Greaves shared a solid 135-run opening stand with John Campbell, who added 62 after India captain Shubman Gill elected to bowl first. The partnership gave the visitors a strong platform in the day-night encounter, the first ODI of West Indies’ tour of India.

It was also the side’s first 100-plus opening partnership against India since Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis scored 115 in Port. It was in 2019 in Spain. The century came in Greaves’ 26th ODI appearance, more than four years after his debut against Ireland in 2022.
Previously, his highest score in the format had been 50. Meanwhile, the century was also his side’s third-highest opening partnership against India on Indian soil. At 32 years and 213 days, he became the third-oldest West Indian batsman to register a maiden ODI hundred.
The knock highlighted Greaves’ growing contribution to the West Indies side across formats, following notable performances in Test cricket, including a double century. Meanwhile, India has started their three-day ODI series against West Indies, with today being the first day. The Men in Blue have decided to bowl first, while the opponents have already started strong as of now.
