K Srikkanth makes shocking remark on Rohit's fitness.

Gautam Gambhir after becoming the new Indian head coach was all praise for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He even said that both players will definitely be playing ODI World Cup 2027 if they are fit enough to compete. However, former Indian player K Srikkanth went overboard with this remark as India's ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma might be fit enough at that time and may faint while playing in South Africa.

K Srikkanth on Rohit Sharma

K Srikkanth believes Gautam Gambhir has taken a u-turn from his original remarks on Rohit and Virat. He also disagreed with this statement of Rohit playing the 2027 World Cup as he might not stay fit enough to compete at that level.

"Gautam Gambhir has taken a U-turn. Before the T20 World Cup 2024, he was saying if Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma do not perform, they will not sit in my team. Then he took a U-turn now, saying there is no player like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. After becoming head coach, he said that both have a lot of cricket left and hopefully they will fit for the 2027 World Cup," Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

"He is a good player, but his age is 37 presently, and the next ODI World Cup is three more years ahead. He will be 40 years old then. I mean, unless you are a super-fit person like MS Dhoni or Sachin Tendulkar, you can't play World Cup at 40s. Yeah, Virat Kohli could play in the 2027 World Cup, in my opinion, for sure. But for Rohit, Mr. Gambhir, you went overboard; he will faint in South Africa," he added.

Rohit set to return

Following the historic triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024, Indian captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20I cricket along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. He is now completely focused on ODI and Test. Rohit would be making his much-awaited return to the cricketing field for the first time with the Sri Lanka series. India will face SL in three T20Is under Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy and after which Rohit will lead the Men in Blue side in the 50-over clashes. This will be the first series for the Rohit and Gautam Gambhir duo.
