The legendary AB de Villiers has expressed his wish to rediscover the thrill of playing cricket and alluded to a possible return to competitive participation. However, to avoid giving his supporters false optimism, the former South African captain has ruled out a comeback to professional cricket. The great cricket player stated unequivocally that he had no intention of playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) or the SA20, the country's top franchise-based T20 competition.
AB de Villiers on making comeback
According to AB de Villiers, he has been enticed to resume playing cricket because of his recent excursions to training sessions with his kids, who have been putting some pressure on him. De Villiers has not played professional cricket since the IPL 2021 season, which concluded his time with RCB. He last played for his country in March 2018. In November 2021, the legendary player declared retirement from all forms of cricket.
"I might still play cricket one day. No confirmation whatsoever, but I am starting to feel it. My kids are putting me under a bit of pressure, and I feel like I could go to the nets with them. If I enjoy it, maybe I will walk out and play a little bit of casual cricket somewhere again—nothing professional like the IPL or South African tours," AB de Villiers told journalist Melinda Farrell on her show Running Between The Wickets.
"Who knows? But we’ll see. I am going to try it again and see if this eye is still working. It’s a bit blurry, but this (the right one) is the dominant one, and it’s working fine. So, I’m doing it for my kids, and I am going to see if I can go out there and enjoy cricket again. Nothing serious, though. We’re not talking about RCB and the big stuff. I don’t want to feel that pressure again. That’s the thing. So, wherever I go, I will have a bit of fun," he added.
De Villiers has openly expressed his desire to become a coach and had previously alluded to a possible association with RCB, which has not yet come to pass. De Villiers, who is currently a brand ambassador for the third season of SA20, has been spending time with his loved ones. He has maintained close relationships with his fans and followers through social media, including a weekly YouTube show.
