Some familiar names were seen stunning the cricket fans during India vs Australia Under-19 1st Youth ODI at the Niranjan Shah Stadium. Not Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid, but their sons teamed up together years after the Indian greats made their names in the world of sport.
Aaryavir Sehwag, the son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, made his India Under-19 debut on Friday in the first Youth ODI against Australia Under-19. The 18-year-old right-hander opened the batting alongside captain Lakshya Raichandani and made an aggressive start.
Sehwag scored 28 runs off 26 balls, including five boundaries, before being dismissed by Australia’s Spencer Green just after the powerplay. His wicket left India at 45 for 1 in the seventh over.

Later in the innings, wicketkeeper-batter Anvay Dravid provided a late flourish. Batting at number six, he smashed 38 runs off just 18 deliveries, clearing the boundary three times and hitting two fours. His rapid contribution helped lift India to a competitive total, with Yashbardhan Chauhan top-scoring with 54 as they built a steady partnership as India aimed to score big.
Both the sons of Indian cricket legends produced eye-catching performances on Friday as India Under-19s posted 182 for 6 in a rain-reduced match in Rajkot. India finished on 182 for 6. Australia were chasing 183 when early updates showed them progressing steadily.
Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag was present at the ground to watch his son’s first appearance in the national colours. Aaryavir earned selection after strong domestic performances, most notably a 297 in the Cooch Behar Trophy for Delhi Under-19. The three-match Youth ODI series continues in Rajkot on September 21 and 23.
Australia Under-19s, who elected to field first, were chasing a revised target of 183. The presence of the two high-profile youngsters added extra interest to the opening game of the series, continuing the next generation of two celebrated Indian cricket families on the international stage.
