Over the years, bowlers have found a way to survive in the batter-dominated T20 world. On October 8 in the Women's Under-19 T20 Trophy, Madhya Pradesh's 16-year-old pacer Anadi Tagde scripted history. She bagged six wickets for just eight runs to bowl out Sikkim for just 31 runs.
She made headlines in 2017 when she made it into Indore's Under-19 team as a nine-year-old. She rose through the ranks over the years. She is one of the few cricketers who were selected for the high-performance camp to train under MPCA head coach Chandrakant Pandit.
Anadi wreaks havoc at JSCA Oval Ground
Sikkim got off to a very slow start in the run chase. Openers Saloni and Akriti struggled to rotate the strike. Only one boundary was scored in the powerplay overs. The opening partnership was broken by Anadi in the fifth over. She trapped wicketkeeper-batter Akriti in front of the wickets. Then Snika came in to bat and got knocked over for a golden duck. Anadi completed the hat-trick by dismissing Rabika lbw.
In the next over, Dhani Buchade joined the party and dismissed Sabita for a three-ball duck. In her next over, Anadi ended opener Saloni' stay at the crease. She scored seven runs from 21 deliveries. Under the circumstances, the last thing Sikkim wanted was a run out. In an attempt to take the second run, Namreeta was caught short of the crease by Mahi Thakur's direct hit.
Anadi continued and knocked over Younish. She scored just two runs from 11 balls. On the first ball Monika Chettri faced, she hit the second boundary of the innings. However, her stay at the crease was short-lived as she got bowled and became Anaadi's sixth victim of the innings.
Carol, Kusangmit face too many dot balls
Skipper Carol tried to prevent Sikkim from getting bowled out. Sikkim suffered another run out as Sapna departed for a three-ball duck. Carol and Kusangmit tried to delay the ineveitable. But Aayushi Shukla ended Kusangmit's resillience. The no.11 batter departed for a 17-ball duck. On the other end, Carol remained unbeaten for five runs from 31 balls as her team was bowled out for 31 in 16.5 overs. They lost the match by 152 runs.
Shreya, Vaishnavi hit fifties
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh posted 183/3 on the board. Shukla departed for a 12-ball 13 to skipper Carol in the third over. Opener Shreya Dixit and wicketkeeper-batter Vaishnavi Vyas shared a 157-run partnership for the second wicket. Shreya got out in the final over. She scored 90 runs from 54 balls including 13 fours. Anadi hit a boundary before getting bowled by Namreeta off the final ball. On the other end, Vaishnavi remained unbeaten for 58 off 52 balls.
