In a three-day practice game against his former state side Mumbai, Maharashtra opener Prithvi Shaw smashed 181 in Pune. While banter from former teammates was expected, Shaw was subjected to sledges during his stay at the crease. It escalated when young Musheer Khan's "Thank You" after Shaw's dismissal irked the former India Under-19 World Cup-winning captain to a point where he resorted to physical altercation.
While there is no information about any official escalation from either Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and Maharastra Cricket Association (MACA), Maharashtra captain Ankit Bawne tried to douse the flames.
"It's a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen. It's all ok now and there is no issue," Bawne said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Shaw and his opening partner dominated the proceedings at the MCA Stadium in Gahunje. He and Arshin Kulkarni shared a 305-run opening partnership. Shaw reached his century from 140 deliveries. Kulkarni scored 186 runs from 140 deliveries.
Who dismissed Shaw?
Left-arm spinner Musheer got the wicket of Shaw as the latter went for the sweep shot but was caught at deep square leg boundary. As Musheer, brother of India’s Test cricketer Sarfaraz Khan, gave Shaw a send-off, it did not sit well with the opener. He was seen swiping his bat at Musheer and trying to grab his collar.
The umpires intervened and asked Shaw to leave the field. The discarded India batter was also seen having a heated conversation with another Mumbai player before leaving the field.
Maharashtra declared their innings after posting 465/3 from 81 overs.
Shaw’s first Ranji game for Maharashtra
Maharashtra and Mumbai will not face each other in the group clashes of Ranji Trophy 2025-26. Placed in Group B, Maharashtra’s campaign opener is against Kerala, starting on October 15.
