India's pace juggernaut Jasprit Bumrah has been named in India’s squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka this August, contingent on clearing his fitness test. Early concerns over his availability are easing, with recent updates indicating he is on track to feature in the opening match. The series kicks off in Galle for the first Test (August 15–19) before shifting to the Sinhalese Sports Club for the second fixture (August 23–27).

Jasprit Bumrah to be first ahead of 1st Test against Sri Lanka
According to a TOI report, Bumrah is adopting a measured, step-by-step approach to his recovery following an impact injury sustained during the recent ODI series against England. The premier fast bowler is set to progressively ramp up his bowling workloads in the coming days. India's medical staff remains optimistic about his progress and expects him to be fully match-ready in time for the series opener.
“Bumrah will start bowling this week and his workload will be gradually increased. He needs to get used to bowling longer spells again. The medical team at the CoE will be closely monitoring it," TOI report stated.
Going by the report, Bumrah is set to return to action this week, starting with a carefully managed bowling routine to rebuild his endurance for extended Test match spells. Under the close watch of medical specialists at the Center of Excellence, early assessments indicate he remains on track to spearhead the attack in the series opener. The BCCI sees his presence as vital, given the high stakes of the upcoming two-Test series. Slipping up in even a single match could severely jeopardize India’s chances of securing a spot in next year's World Test Championship final, prompting management to ensure Bumrah is back at peak fitness.

India fret over Shubman Gill's neck injury
Meanwhile, Indian Test skipper Shubman Gill is actively seeking expert medical advice to resolve a persistent neck condition. The recurring injury previously sidelined him during last year's two-Test tour of South Africa and kept him out of an IPL fixture in April 2026. Because the pain tends to flare up during long stints at the crease, Gill is taking a proactive, long-term approach with outside specialists. Given how much the team missed his leadership and batting during the South Africa series, both Gill and the management are prioritizing a thorough resolution to the issue.
