India’s highest wicket-taker in the 2023 ODI World Cup, Mohammed Shami hit back at former Pakistan captain Inzamam Ul Haq for accusing Arshdeep Singh of ball tampering. the Ex-PAK cricketer made this shocking statement while accusing India of ball tampering during their Super Eight game. Indian captain Rohit Sharma gave a befitting reply to these allegations during the World Cup itself, denying all the baseless accusations. After Rohit, now the star Indian speedster has also slammed Inzamam over his remarks.
Inzamam's Allegations
Inzamam made baseless allegations against Arshdeep Singh by accusing him of tampering with the ball on June 24, which, according to him, resulted in the left-arm fast bowler getting the ball to reverse swing. Saleem Malik, another former Pakistan captain who was also part of the same panel, agreed with the senior and said "Umpires always have their eyes closed for some teams, and India is one of those".
The controversy took on a huge form when Indian captain Rohit gave it back to the 54-year-old during a press conference, explaining the nuances of reverse-swinging. Inzamam was not ready to end the controversy, as he replied, “India need not teach something to someone who taught it to the world.”
Shami slams Inzamam
Shami responded to Inzamam’s allegations and said It is fine when they do it but call it ball tampering when others do it. He also asked him to take these ridiculous remarks somewhere else.
"Apparently, I got a different type of ball in the World Cup. I even said in an interview that I would one day cut open the ball. In fact, I still have the Player of the Match ball with me. Another person came up with a comment on how Arshdeep managed to reverse swing the ball. I have only one thing to tell Inzamam-ul-Haq: if you can do it, you are a magician, but when others do it, you call it ball tampering. It's unexpected when a player of his stature makes such comments. Take these cartoonish comments somewhere else. Getting the ball to reverse swing does not require any magic; you just need to maintain it properly,” said Shami on the YouTube show 'Unplugged'.
