The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 revealed many players who were earmarked for bright futures even if their teams were subpar. One such player was Dewald Brevis, who plied his trade for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2022 season.
The five-time IPL champions have involved their younger players in a tour of the UK, where the side played Durham and the young South African smashed a brilliant 112 runs off 49 balls. His innings helped the Reliance Cricket team to defeat Durham by 81 runs in a friendly match.
Baby de Villiers hit nine sixes
Durham won the toss and elected to bowl, and Brevis from the Reliance team scored a fiery century while opening the batting. Once Brevis got into his stride, the youngster did not stop and finished his innings of 112 runs with nine fours and six fours. This helped the Reliance team to post an insurmountable score of 211 runs.
Arjun Tendulkar did not get a single wicket
One player who was part of the team but failed to impress was Arjun Tendulkar. A bowler by trade, Tendulkar did not scalp any wickets, but he was aided by the likes of Hrithik Shoukeen, Basil Thampi, Kumar Karthikeya, and Charak, who took two wickets each. Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun Tendulkar also bowled three overs for Reliance but he could not take a single wicket for 27 runs.
Under the pressure of a huge target of 212 runs, Durham's team went on to collapse as they were reduced to 130 runs in 18.2 overs. This helped a young Reliance team to secure a spectacular victory of 81 runs. For Reliance,
Dewald Brevis was sold for 3 crores
Brevis, who played for South Africa at the U-19 World Cup, is known as the 'Baby de Villiers' due to his shots like former South African legend AB de Villiers. His pinch-hitting skills made him a sought-after player, with MI taking a chance on him at the mega auction of the IPL 2022 season. A bidding war between MI and Chennai Super Kinges (CSK) ensued, with the latter finally winning the bid.
