Bangladesh started their three-match ODI series against Pakistan with a dominating eight-wicket win at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday. This was a special moment for the Tigers, as it marked their first ODI win against Pakistan since the 2018 Asia Cup.
Bangladesh's 115 chase
Chasing a modest target of 115, Bangladesh reached it comfortably in just 15.1 overs. Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim was the star with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 67 off 42 balls, including seven fours and five sixes. Najmul Hosain Shanto also played a quick cameo, scoring 27 off 33 balls, which helped Bangladesh wrap up the game without any trouble.
Nahid Rana starred with ball
The biggest highlight of the day, however, was Nahid Rana. The 23-year-old fast bowler was in sensational form, taking five wickets in his very first ODI five-for, completely tearing through Pakistan’s batting lineup.

Pakistan's batting collapsed
Pakistan, after winning the toss, chose to bat first. Bangladesh’s experienced seamer Taskin Ahmed led the attack, while debutants Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat put on a 41-run partnership to start. But Rana struck in the 10th over to remove Farhan and quickly followed it up by dismissing Hussain and Sadaqat, putting Pakistan on the back foot early.
Rana didn’t stop there. He also claimed the wickets of Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha, completing his impressive five-wicket haul in just 18 overs. Despite a late fightback from Faheem Ashraf, who added 32 runs with Abrar Ahmed, Pakistan was bowled out for just 114.
Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz supported Rana well by taking three wickets, and Rana was rightly named Player of the Match for his outstanding 5/24.
Pakistan vs Bangladesh 2nd ODI
With this win, Bangladesh takes a 1-0 lead in the series and will look to continue their momentum when they face Pakistan again in the second ODI at the same venue on Friday.
