The Pakistan cricket team's batting woes have carried forward to the ODI format as well. After their ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 exit, Shaheen Shah Afridi-led Pakistan were bowled out for 114 in ODI series opener against Bangladesh. This is their lowest ODI score against Bangladesh by far. Their previous lowest ODI total of 161 against Bangladesh came in 1999 World Cup.

Rana breaks Mustafizur’s ODI record vs Pakistan

Bangladesh's 23-year-old pacer Nahid Rana wreaked havoc with a fifer. Rana's five wickets for 24 runs in seven overs is the best bowling figures by a Bangladesh bowler against Pakistan in ODIs. The previous best belonged to left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman who claimed five wickets for 75 runs against Pakistan in 2019 World Cup.

Rana claims top five

On their ODI debuts, Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat and Shamyl Hussain were dismissed for 27, 18 and 4 respectively by Rana. Mohammad Rizwan struggled and was dismissed caught behind by the young pacer as well. An out-of-form Salman Agha registered a single-digit score as Rana completed his maiden ODI fifer.

Pakistan lost half the side for 69 in the 18th over. Then, Abdul Samad, Hussain Talat, Afridi, and, Mohammad Wasim Jr. were dismissed within a space of 12 runs and six overs. 

Ashraf takes Pakistan past 100

Pakistan were 82/9 when Faheem Ashraf helped them cross the 100-run mark. Abrar Ahmed held one end whereas Ashraf contributed with a 47-ball 37, featuring six fours and the only six of the innings. Mustafizur Rahman ended his stay at the crease in the 31st over as Pakistan were bowled out for 114.

Apart from Rana, skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz took three wickets for 29 runs in his quota of 10 overs at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
