Nepal's star cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has been accused of raping a minor. The 17-year-old lodged a complaint against Lamicchane to Kathmandu police on September 7. The 22-year-old is to play in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 after the recently concluded limited-overs series against Kenya.

In the health check-up, the rape of the minor has been confirmed. An investigation has been launched by Kathmandu Valley Police.

As per the police report, Lamicchane allegedly asked the minor to go on a trip before the team's departure for Kenya on August 22. The girl could not return to her hostel as the gates were shut by 8 PM. The hostel rule led to her staying in Kathmandu hotel.

Lamicchane is currently the captain of Nepal. The 22-year-old leggie recently broke the record for most wickets in a calendar year in T20Is. The record was previously held by Sir Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi.

Lamicchane made his international debut in 2018. Earlier, he made a name for himself with a fifer in Under-19 World Cup 2016.

Lamicchane has played in T20 leagues around the world. He is the only Nepal cricketer to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The youngster was picked for his base price of Rs 20 lakh by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2018.
