Jofra Archer missed out on the squad for Sri Lanka's ODI and T20I series

England's tour of Sri Lanka to begin from January 22

England have announced their squad for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka. With the 2026 T20 World Cup around the corner, the Three Lions will be participating in a white-ball tour that will include three ODIs and T20Is each. The T20I assignment in particular will be quite important for both the teams as it will be their final bit of preparation before the T20 World Cup.

One of the key players missing from England's squad was Jofra  Archer. The speedster had featured in the first three Tests of the ongoing Ashes series, but had then been ruled out of the remaining two due to a side strain. He has likely been rested for the Sri Lanka tour so that he can fully recover from his injury heading into the T20 World Cup.

Tongue called up in place of Archer

With Archer absent, Josh Tongue received a maiden call-up for T20I series. Brydon Carse, Luke Wood, Sam Curran and Jamie Overton are the other pace options that England have picked for the shortest format. It remains to be seen as to how will they perform in the final T20I assignment before the World Cup.
