Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic recently shared fascinating details about his bond with India's batting juggernaut Virat Kohli, revealing a mutual admiration that has spanned years. Despite being two of the most dominant figures in modern sports, the Serbian maestro disclosed in a recent video that they have never actually met face-to-face. Instead, their camaraderie has been built entirely through regular text messages and digital support as they track each other's historic careers.
Novak Djokovic's special words for Virat Kohli
The 24-time Grand Slam champion expressed a strong desire to finally bring their friendship into the real world. Djokovic joked that when they do eventually connect, he wants to engage in a fun cross-sport session, challenging the Indian batsman to a bit of both tennis and cricket. He concluded by teasing an upcoming trip to India, hoping the visit will provide the perfect opportunity for the high-profile crossover.
Confirming their close bond, Djokovic stated:
“We have not met in person, we've texted, so we're in touch for the last few years. I'm also planning to come to India soon, so maybe that's where we get a link up”.
Virat Kohli expected to make ODI comeback in England
Talking about Kohli, he is currently sidelined from competitive cricket after sustaining a hamstring injury during the high-stakes final of the IPL 2026 season. Kohli’s masterclass performance anchored RCB to IPL 2026 title after thrashing Gujarat Titans in the final. However, the physical toll of that match-defining knock forced the star batter out of India's subsequent three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.
His road to recovery is expected to take several weeks. The Delhi-born cricketer was recently spotted at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence undergoing mandatory fitness examinations to assess his progress. While fans are eager to see him back on the pitch, team management is maintaining a cautious approach, making his potential return heavily dependent on passing strict medical clearances.
Looking ahead, India is scheduled to travel to England for a highly anticipated white-ball assignment. While this tour is being targeted as a realistic comeback window for Kohli, his participation remains entirely subject to hitting peak physical condition, as the BCCI has yet to release an official update regarding his availability.
