It seems like there is no end to the troubles for the side. They recently lost all three Test matches against England and now this.
Why did ICC punish Pakistan with 50% match fee and WTC points deductions?
ICC has punished Pakistan with a 50% match fee and 11 WTC points deductions for maintaining a slow over rate in the third Test against England in Birmingham. The sanctions were announced on Monday after the visitors were found to be 11 overs short of the required target, once time allowances were considered.
Match referee Ranjan Madugalle imposed the penalties following a charge brought by the on-field umpires, third umpire and fourth umpire. Captain Babar Azam pleaded guilty, meaning no formal hearing was required.
Under ICC rules, teams are fined five per cent of their match fee for each over short, capped at 50 per cent, while one WTC point is deducted for every over missed. The double sanction leaves Pakistan bottom of the WTC table in ninth place with a points percentage of just 4.63, down from 14.81.
The penalty comes after England completed a 3-0 series whitewash, winning the final Test by eight wickets. Pakistan were bowled out for 133 in their first innings before fighting back with 449 in the second; England chased a target of 130 comfortably. The result marked another difficult tour for the Pakistan side.
