Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen is no longer in favour of rigorous quarantine restrictions and bio-bubble for the players. Pietersen lambasted all restrictions placed on the players.
He wrote in a recent tweet,
‘There is NO WAY I would go to The Ashes this winter. ZERO chance! Unless the ridiculous quarantine rules were squashed and my family could travel with zero restrictions. Players are now done with bubbles! DONE!!!!!!!’
This is not the first time Pietersen has criticised the Covid protocols set by the boards for the players to follow.
On September 21, he wrote in a tweet,
"ENG pulls out of SA tour last year. India pulls out of ENG tour. NZ pull out of the PAK tour. ENG pull out of PAK tour. Players have had enough of bubbles! You cannot perform to the best of your ability by constantly having your every move(even away from grounds) watched."
The English star is vehemently opposed to the boards' stringent rules and limits. According to Pietersen, players cannot perform to the best of their abilities if they are continuously observed. Furthermore, he feels that staying away from one's family and loved ones is extremely challenging for athletes during these trying moments. Also, given these constraints, he would not have gone to Australia if he had been a member of the squad.
He also supported England's players' decision to withdraw their names from the Ashes series, which will be contested in Australia in December.
England is already not playing with their complete team, and the loss of important players might significantly hurt their chances in the Ashes.
We may see more teams and players removing names from away tours in the future months if the boards do not offer players some leeway from bio-bubble requirements.
