R. Ashwin rises in Test rankings; Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli slump

India skipper Rohit Sharma and veteran batter Virat Kohli moved down a rung each to be placed 8th and 10th, respectively, in the latest ICC Test rankings released on Wednesday.

 

Rohit, who continued to remain the top-ranked Indian in the batters' chart, moved down a place to 8th. He has 754 points, while Kohli, who has 742 rating points moved to the 10th position.


Also, star Australia opening batsman Usman Khawaja, who delivered an exceptional performance in the recently concluded Test series against Pakistan, has climbed to No.7. Notably, he had scored 496 runs against Pakistan from five innings at an average of 165.33.


Meanwhile, Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne retained his No.1 position but England’s skipper Joe Root has slipped to No.4 in the ICC Test Batting Rankings. Australia Test vice-captain Steve Smith and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson are at No. 2 and 3 positions respectively.

 

Ravindra Jadeja retained the top position among all-rounders, while Ravichandran Ashwin displaced West Indies' Jason Holder to be second.

 

Ashwin and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah continued to hold on to their second and fourth positions, respectively, in the bowlers' chart which is led by Australia's Pat Cummins.

In the ICC ODI Rankings, Kohli remained static on second while Rohit climbed up a place to fourth.

 

Bumrah, who is the only Indian in the top 10 among bowlers, remained at the sixth spot.

 

Meanwhile Babar Azam, Trent Boult and Shakib Al Hasan have retained their No.1 spots in the batting, bowling and all-rounders’ charts.

Also, Australia National Cricket Team leg-spinner Adam Zampa has entered the top 10 in the bowling rankings. In the batting rankings, Rohit Sharma overtook Quinton de Kock to claim the 4th spot and Imam-ul-Haq has returned to the top 10.
