India's legendary spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is set to make a comeback to the field. Earlier this year, Ashwin announced his retirement from all formats of the game. However, he will now represent Team India at the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes tournament, which is scheduled for November 7–9, 2025.

Cricket Hong Kong officially announced Ashwin's return on their social media, creating an immediate buzz among fans and the cricketing community. This comeback is particularly notable because Ashwin recently retired from both international cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). While the Hong Kong Sixes is a shorter format, it adds another fascinating chapter to the illustrious career of one of India's most celebrated cricketers.

"We have all watched the HK Sixes as youngsters on Television and it has always been an existing format that I wanted to be a part of. This format requires a different strategy and will prove to be high octane which I am looking forward to play alongside my ex-teammates. I am also thrilled to compete against some quality players in the opposition teams, it will be a good challenge for us,” Ashwin said, as quoted by Sports Star.

Ashwin is making a post-retirement comeback. After he retired earlier this year, fans had bid him an emotional farewell during his final IPL appearance. Known for his guile, tactical skills, and incredible game awareness, the off-spinner was a key player in India's success across Test and limited-overs formats. His decision to now participate in the Hong Kong Sixes has reignited excitement among fans.

The Hong Kong Sixes is renowned for being one of the most entertaining formats in cricket. With just six players per side and five-over innings, the tournament offers non-stop, high-octane action. Boundaries are hit frequently, and bowlers face a significant challenge in the fast-paced environment.

The 39-year-old had previously hinted at exploring different cricket leagues after his retirement, and his participation in the Hong Kong Sixes appears to be the first step in this new direction.

Notably, Ashwin officially retired from international cricket during India's tour of Australia in December 2024. He concluded a highly decorated career as India's second-highest wicket-taker in Test matches, having claimed 537 wickets. This puts him behind only Anil Kumble, who holds the record with 619 wickets.
